Radio Free Alice - Empty Words Vinyl EP
In collaboration with Double Drummer, we are excited to announce Naarm/Melbourne-based new wave/post-punk band Radio Free Alice - the band behind multiple sell-out vinyl EPs here at Impressed - are back with their third EP Empty Words on limited edition splatter vinyl.
Produced by Ali Chant (Dry Cleaning, Perfume Genius, Soccer Mommy) - who also produced EP track Regret - and recorded across London and Bristol this year.
On focus track Chinese Restaurant Radio Free Alice frontman Noah Learmonth shares, “The idea for Chinese Restaurant came while touring the UK, surrounded by this overwhelming sense of living in the past. Every venue had a punny name nodding to some bygone legend-places like EBGBS (a riff on CBGB) or The Stoned Rose. Driving around the UK in this tour van felt like wandering through the aftermath of a house party that was definitely over, but no one seemed capable of moving on from.” Learmonth continues, “The whole EP is in some way connected to this feeling that I’ve had my whole life. That the world’s this museum for the past we didn’t even live through.”
Empty Words also features the Peter Katis (Interpol, Bloc Party, Frightened Rabbit)-produced latest single Toyota Camry - which is in rotation on BBC 6 Music who named Radio Free Alice their New Music Fix Daily Breaking Artist this week - and its title-track, written and recorded during some downtime between shows while Radio Free Alice were in London last year and produced by Ewan Pearson (M83, Depeche Mode). Across its four tracks, Empty Words is a bold step forward in Radio Free Alice’s wildly consistent output.
Following their performance at Reading and Leeds Festival 2025 next week, Radio Free Alice start their North American tour, which includes two sold out headline shows in NYC (the first selling out in 24 hours) and a slot at Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, GA alongside Lucy Dacus, IDLES, Pixies and more.
The Empty Words EP release is the latest marker in an unstoppable year which has seen Radio Free Alice play six sold out headline shows in London and a further seven shows around the UK and in Ireland, feature in the NME 100 and Monster Children’s Bright Young Things, perform accompanying a runway show at Melbourne Fashion Festival, take part in their first luxury fashion photoshoot with Prada for the cover of 10 Men Australia, bring two nominations at the AIR Awards, make their debut at SXSW Austin, and their much-talked-about Empty Words Single Tour across so-called Australia which saw them sell out three Night Cats back-to-back in Naarm/Melbourne and two Oxford Art Factories on Gadigal Land in Sydney with crowds hanging on to every moment throughout.
Formed in Gadigal Land/Sydney in 2020 before making the move to Naarm/Melbourne, Radio Free Alice - Noah Learmonth (he/him; vocals, guitar), Jules Paradiso (he/him; guitar), Michael Phillips (he/him; bass, saxophone), and Lochie Dowd (he/him; drums) - continue to make their mark with their wildly consistent output and vital live performances. Their debut self-titled EP (2023) was nominated for Best Independent Punk Album or EP at the AIR Awards and quickly followed up with Polyester (2024) - which has hit over 3 million streams across its four tracks on Spotify alone and has had support and acclaim from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music (New Music Fix), triple j, FBi Radio, Triple R, Clash, the cover of DORK (UK), Complex, Pigeons, Planes, NME, Rolling Stone, The Line Of Best Fit and many, many others.
They’ve played Lost Paradise, Splendour In The Grass, Dot To Dot, Live At Leeds, London Calling Amsterdam, The Great Escape, Rock For People Budapest, Wide Awake, Mood Swings, Party In The Paddock, Loch Hart, SXSW Austin, SXSW Sydney, and BigSound, toured with The Killers, Royel Otis, Sorry and Big Special, and made their debut in the US this year. Throughout it all - plus the ongoing acclaim on their singles - the highest kudos may be from The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s leader Anton Newcombe, who once told the band they were “not shit” after he accidentally caught one of their headline shows.
Pressed to limited edition red and white splatter vinyl, with individually numbered obi strips. This EP is strictly limited to 200 copies only.
This variant will never be repressed.
